Sample Elevator Speech

Assignment 6

Prewriting:

Choose an audience (elected official, school administrator, school board member, classroom teacher, or parent). Compose a scenario, pose a question, or make a statement that prompts your “speech.”

Speech:

Compose a 1-minute elevator speech (a short persuasive speech that you could “deliver” on an elevator ride with an important library stakeholder) on any topic of your choosing related to school libraries or librarians. (Your speech will be approximately 140 to 150 words in length.)

An effective elevator pitch generally answers questions such as:

  1. What is the service provided?
  2. What does it do for the stakeholder (e.g. the benefits)?
  3. Who you are and why will you be successful in meeting the stakeholder’s needs?

  2. Clear
  3. Compelling
  4. Credible
  5. Conceptual
