“The goal of lightning talks is to articulate a topic in a quick, insightful, and clear manner” (Wikipedia).
The point is to make your point and do it quickly. The purpose of this particular Lightning Talk assignment is to inform and share information focused on a topic pertinent to technology and the school library.
Choose a technology topic of interest to your audience and this class.
• Identify the technology topic, issue or trend.
• Provide an overview that will inspire your audience to learn more about your topic.
• Share key points, concerns, options and/or major aspects of the topic related to its practical application.
• Provide a digital handout with a summary of the overview, references for further investigation, and an invitation to classroom-library collaboration.
Presentation Tool and Content:
(No more than) 20 slides - each displayed for 30 seconds = 10 minutes
Cover key points succinctly and efficiently.
• Use more visuals and fewer words.
• Remove all non-critical information.
• Do not read slides when you record or present.
Recording and Submitting:
Record your lightning talk using an application such as Screencast-O-Matic (https://screencast-o-matic.com). Upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo. Set your video to UNLISTED but PUBLIC so that classmates and I can view it.
Complete the top portion of the Assignment 7 Rubric, including the link to your YouTube or Vimeo video, compose your reflection response on the rubric, and upload the rubric in the Moodle Assignment tool.
Presentation to an Audience (and the Class):
You will present your Lightning Talk in class (maximum 10 minutes). You may also choose to share your presentation with the entire class in the “Lighting Talks” Folder in our course Google Drive Folder.
